Ceremonial Reopening of the Restored Zwinger Courtyard in Dresden
On October 14, 2025, Dresden’s Zwinger courtyard was ceremonially reopened following a four-year restoration. The inner courtyard of this Baroque masterpiece now shines in a new splendor and is once again accessible to visitors from around the world.
BAUGRUND DRESDEN provided comprehensive technical support for the project, including geotechnical site investigations, planning consultancy, and specialized geotechnical construction supervision for the historic pathways within the Zwinger. Particular sensitivity was required during trial field tests for reinstating the historic roadbed, taking into account both static and low-dynamic compaction methods.
In parallel, BAUGRUND DRESDEN carried out vibration monitoring on behalf of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Dresden State Art Collections). This included developing a safety and mitigation concept with computational assessments of vibrations generated by construction equipment, on-site monitoring of compaction and chiseling works, and continuous vibration monitoring equipped with alarm and remote notification capabilities—all to safeguard the invaluable art collections and historic fabric of the building.
With its reopening, life returns once more to the heart of the Zwinger—a site of outstanding cultural and architectural significance.
